LIVE
A subsequent fifteen-minute performance at showcase festival Eurosonic Noorderslag in 2024 was enough to convince the Netherlands of Hiqpy’s legitimacy—even though they hadn’t released a single note of music yet. “Hiqpy is suddenly the next big thing, even though there’s nothing on Spotify yet,” wrote NRC newspaper. That performance in Groningen would change their lives forever. “In the bustling foyer of De Oosterpoort venue in Groningen, Hiqpy’s grungy shoegaze songs cut straight to the bone,” wrote 3voor12. OOR predicted the band “a brilliant future, with a live show that stands rock solid.” NRC heard “self-assured alternative rock with poppy tendencies and a razor-sharp edge: a bit of Smashing Pumpkins, a bit of Wolf Alice, perhaps a touch of Pixies.” Hiqpy themselves describe it as: “The lovechild of The Strokes/Nirvana and Sabrina Carpenter.”
Those fifteen minutes in Groningen led to more than forty festival shows in 2024, from Bevrijdingspop Haarlem to Into The Great Wide Open. In 2024, the band won the Zonneprijs for musical talent, was selected by venue EKKO for their Class of 2024, and was named Record Store Day Talent. At the end of 2024, the band signed a contract with Sony Music.
In January 2025, their debut single Something was finally released. In that same period of time, Hiqpy was named Volkskrant Talent. At Eurosonic Noorderslag, they were chosen by 3voor12 as the #1 act of the festival and were named 3FM Talent for 2025. They were also nominated for a 3FM Award in the Best Newcomer category. In June, they were selected as Spotify RADAR artist.
In 2025, Hiqpy was one of Netherland’s most-booked festival acts, performing at more than forty festivals across the Netherlands and Belgium, including Pinkpop, Rock Werchter, Into The Great Wide Open, Paaspop, and Best Kept Secret.
In 2026, Hiqpy was nominated for two Edison Awards (Best Newcomer and Rock) and for a 3FM Award for Best Group.
Slow Death Of A Good Girl
Hiqpy’s debut album is titled Slow Death Of A Good Girl. Lead-singer Abir Hamam explains: “A ‘good girl’ is a metaphor for a ‘people pleaser’: someone who does what is expected of her. This goes at the expense of herself, because she doesn’t set her own boundaries. The ‘slow death’ of this good girl symbolizes the gradual but certain farewell to the people pleaser within you. That is the central theme of this album: the dance between the yes-(wo)man who lets others walk all over her and the person who puts herself first, who dares to take control and, through that shift, says goodbye to the people who oppose it.”
In addition to their debut single Something, the album features the singles Red Flag Magician, Girl in Red, Youman, Bowie’s Pressure, and Nothing. The record was produced by Grammy Award-winner Danton Supple, who has worked with bands like Coldplay, U2, and Elbow.
The album Slow Death Of A Good Girl was released on April 10, 2026.
